Class 9 AI Unit 4: Introduction to Generative AI

8 theory hours · 12 practical hours · 5 theory marks

What this unit is about

Generative AI creates new content (text, images, audio, video) instead of only sorting or predicting. The unit compares it with conventional AI, covers types and examples, benefits and limitations, a hands-on activity (spot the real vs AI-made image, GAN Paint), and the ethics of using it: deepfakes, copyright and misinformation.

What the unit covers

  • What generative AI is, and generative AI vs conventional AI.
  • Types and examples of generative AI.
  • Benefits and limitations; using generative AI tools to create content.
  • Ethical considerations of using generative AI.

Key terms

Generative AI
AI that produces new text, images, audio or video learned from patterns in data.
Conventional AI
AI that classifies or predicts from data but does not create new content.
GAN
Generative adversarial network: a generator makes fakes and a discriminator tries to catch them, so both improve.
Deepfake
AI-made video or audio that convincingly shows a real person saying or doing something they never did.

Exam-style questions

  1. 1. How is generative AI different from conventional AI?

    Show answer →

Conventional AI analyses data to classify or predict; generative AI uses learned patterns to create new content.

  2. 2. Give two limitations of generative AI.

    Show answer →

It can state wrong facts confidently, and it can repeat bias present in its training data.
